Functional Electrical Stimulation

FES or functional Electrical Stimulation is a way of activating a paralysed muscle. It is effective in conditions which affect the central nervous system such as stroke, spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy and head injury. An electrical stimulation activates the muscle via electrical pads on the skin. It can help with functional movement especially walking. It can also be used as an exercise to train and strengthen muscles in the arm and leg.
